The Arizona Diamondbacks close out their series at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs. Sunday’s game begins at 11:10 a.m. and can be seen on YurView TV.
Sunday’s Diamondbacks-Cubs pitching matchup
Diamondbacks RHP Brandon Pfaadt (1-8, 6.27) vs. Cubs RHP Kyle Hendricks (5-7, 3.73).
Pfaadt had six strong starts after returning from Triple-A Reno in late July, with a 3.48 ERA in that span. … Pfaadt’s last two starts have not been as good. Last time out, he allowed three runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Orioles and was pulled after just 70 pitches. … Pitching coach Brent Strom said that he’s hoping to see a better changeup from Pfaadt. Strom is trying to get Pfaadt to throw the pitch slower to give him a third quality pitch beyond his fastball and sweeper. … Hendricks, on the other hand, relies heavily on his changeup, which most metrics rate among the best in baseball. … The Cubs’ longest-tenured player and only remaining piece of their 2016 World Series team, Hendricks is having his best season since 2020. He struggled last time out, though, allowing five runs (four earned) in 5 1/3 innings against the Giants.
