But something that stood out was when the head coach claimed that there were both impending free agents on the Giants “begging to come back” and players who were on the Giants last year who are “still calling me twice a week talking about how much they wish they were still here and they’re getting paid more somewhere else.”
That seems odd when the Giants are having one of their worst seasons (and maybe the worst) in franchise history.
But Judge says it’s true.
In fact, he doubled down on those comments on Monday — in a much shorter media availability.
“We have a strong culture of players from other teams that I know reach out to our players currently, have reached out to me as well through different avenues,” Judge said to reporters on Monday in a Zoom call, while insisting there has been no tampering going on. “Look, I know this is a place that players want to play. It’s a place a lot of players [are] gonna want to play for a long time.”
Every single player the Giants lost in free agency last year is currently on a team with a better record than the Giants’ 4-12.
Maybe players want to leave playoff teams and want to be with the league’s laughingstock.
However, we’ll have to wait to see which newcomers are dying to wear Giants Blue in 2022.
