Justin Thomas shuts down LIV Golf rumors

Brooks Koepka’s recent LIV Golf announcement has the golf world on notice for whom the next big star to leave the PGA might be. Rumors were on the verge of gaining steam after Justin Thomas backed out of the Traveler’s Championship. PGA insider Daniel Rapaport said that he heard whispers of every player not named Rory Mcilroy tied to LIV Golf. However, Rapaport also shared an important reminder in reference to those whispers.

At this point the only name I haven’t heard/read in connection to LIV is Rory McIlroy. A reminder that having a Twitter account and the ability to type the word “sources” does not make someone trustworthy.

Justin Thomas immediately shared a Tweet in response to the news of him backing out of the Traveler’s Championship.

Before the rumors start flying, I have decided to WD to treat and rest my back which I tweaked earlier this week. Just making sure I get it taken care of and ready for the rest of the PGA season as planned. Hate to be missing one of the best/my favorite events @TravelersChamp! https://t.co/DUzwF1CTk2

— Justin Thomas (@JustinThomas34) June 22, 2022

Thomas made sure to clarify that this was purely an injury-related absence and that he would be preparing for the remainder of the PGA season.

Rapaport commented on PGA players backing out of events.

Just like people got sick before COVID, people withdrew from golf tournaments before LIV.

Justin Thomas has been vocal in his commitment to the PGA Tour. He even referred to it as the “best place to play in the world.” He, along with players such as Rory Mcilroy and John Rahm, have become heroes amongst PGA fans. They will continue to lead the stance against LIV Golf moving forward.

But there is no denying the fact that the PGA has a problem given the amount of stars who have ditched the Tour for LIV Golf.
