Who is starting for the Mets?
David Peterson climbs the hill for the visitors making his 18th start (24th appearance) in the 2023 campaign.
The left-hander has been getting regular work since the All-Star break, but only made his move back into the starting rotation after the trade deadline on Aug. 1. And that change has had mixed results as over those six starts the six-foot-six lefty has allowed 12 runs on 25 hits and 16 walks over 26.0 innings (an average of 4.1 innings per start) with opponents posting a .830 OPS against him.
Peterson did pitch a gem against the Angels, allowing just one run on three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts over 7.0 innings. But he followed that up with a 4.0 inning outing that saw him surrender four runs on seven hits in a loss to Seattle in his last start.
But, after coming back to the Mets after a stint at Triple-A Syracuse on June 27, Peterson has pitched to a 3.28 ERA (18 runs over 49.1 innings).
Overall, the 28-year-old has posted a 5.40 ERA (4.73 FIP) with a 1.608 WHIP over 88.1 innings conceding 54 runs (53 earned) on 101 hits and 41 walks with 95 strikeouts.
Who is starting for the Twins?
Kenta Maeda will get the proceedings started in the top half of the first inning.
The right-hander has struggled lately, posting a 7.50 ERA (15 runs over 18.0 innings) in his last four starts. In his last outing at Texas, there was a lot of traffic on the bases in his five innings: nine hits and two walks, but the damage was contained to just three runs.
Of course, in the five starts preceding his latest four-game slump, Maeda had a great stretch allowing just seven runs on 18 hits over 29.2 innings for a 2.12 ERA
The 35-year-old has posted a 4.73 ERA (4.09 FIP) with a 1.267 WHIP in 17 starts over 83.2 innings pitched. He has allowed 45 runs (44 earned) on 83 hits with 23 walks and 94 strikeouts. The veteran has been bit for 14 homers on the year.
Upcoming schedule
The Mets and Twins return to conclude the series Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 2:10 p.m. on SNY.
Right-hander Tylor Megill (8-7, 5.28 ERA) gets the start against the Twins righty Pablo Lopez (10-7, 3.64 ERA).
