In an AL Central matchup between two bitter division rivals, the Chicago White Sox will put their first-place spot to the test in Cleveland against the Guardians. It is time to check out our MLB odds series, which includes our White Sox-Guardians prediction and pick.
Entering play on Tuesday, the White Sox are 6-3 overall with a positive record of 2-1 while representing the visiting team. Looking to increase their division lead, Chicago will send LHP Dallas Keuchel to the mound, as the southpaw would love to continue to improve from his last outing when he pitched a quality start but gave three runs in the process.
Cleveland will counter with their ace in RHP Shane Bieber, who has so far looked the part in being the Guardians’ best pitcher with a dominating 2.70 ERA. The Guardians are still seeking their first home win of the year, as they are 0-3 in front of their home fans and have found themselves sitting at a game below .55 at 4-5 on the season.

Why The White Sox Could Cover the Spread
After another game around the MLB circuit that saw Mother Nature enforce her will on Monday, the White Sox will finally get their chance in trying to defeat and cover the spread in the start of what is now a three-game series versus the Guardians. In order to do so, Chicago must bounce back in the pitching department, something that was on a roll prior to their previous loss against the Rays 9-3. Yes, the White Sox may have won the series versus Tampa Bay to their dismay, but there is no greater recipe for success in Major League Baseball when a team can roll out consistent pitching night in and night out.
Lefty Dallas Keuchel could be just the man for the job, as the savvy veteran doesn’t necessarily blow you away with his arsenal, but instead excels at painting corners and keeping the opposition off-balanced with a curveball that makes hitters buckle at the knees. Lifetime, the White Sox southpaw has compiled a 4-2 record with a 3.53 ERA in 11 total starts. Keuchel for sure has what it takes, but can the offense get on the same page?
It has been a struggle to say the least at the dish for Chicago hitting, as the White Sox are only 22nd in the league in runs and are 20th in batting average with a .220 mark. While the season may still be young, Chicago has to feel good about themselves with a 6-3 record while obtaining a below-average offense through nine games played. The White Sox may get a timely hit here and then, but the spread will come down to pitching, and whether or not Keuchel has his A-game working early. One stat that is in favor of the White Sox offense? Chicago is 11-4 in their past 15 games when matched up against right-handed pitching.
Why The Guardians Could Cover the Spread
After a four-game winning streak that saw the Guardians erupt for 44 runs over that span, the bats have gone ice cold. While the Guardians did go up against one of the top pitching staffs that baseball has seen thus far this season in the Giants, Cleveland only scrounged together four runs in three games. Ultimately getting swept, the Guardians would love to get off to fast starts in the early innings to snap their three-game losing streak.
Despite being held in check at the dish, this is still a bunch that has a lineup that cannot be ignored, especially when they are patient and working the count. Names like Myles Straw, Steven Kwan, and Owen Miller are all some youngsters with big chips on their shoulders, as they have the ability to put a crooked number up against Keuchel on Tuesday afternoon. Don’t forget third-baseman Jose Ramirez, as he may be the most lethal Guardian’s bat in that entire lineup. Ramirez is slashing an absurd .457/.500/.886 to begin the 2022 campaign.
Introducing Shane Bieber, who historically owns a 5-2 record with a 2.55 ERA in 12 career starts versus the White Sox. Although it appears that Bieber might not be the pitcher he once was a couple of seasons ago with his average velocity dipping below 91 MPH, he should still have success against a so-so White Sox group.
Final White Sox-Guardians Prediction & Pick
While the White Sox have the better record and the Guardians seemingly slumping, bettors should like Cleveland’s odds to get back in the win column. The Guardians will rough up the White Sox injury battered bullpen and will move a game closer of Chicago’s division lead. Cleveland finally gets their first win at home!
Final White Sox-Guardians Prediction & Pick: Guardians -1.5 (+146)
