There’s finally something to celebrate in Montreal this season.
With Arizona’s win against Dallas on Wednesday, the Montreal Canadiens have secured a top three draft pick for the 2022 NHL draft and the best odds to pick first overall.
Montreal has an 18.5 percent chance of selecting first on July 7 in Montreal. The Coyotes, in second, have a 13.5 percent chance. The Seattle Kraken and Philadelphia Flyers are still battling for the 30th spot in the league.
Montreal made the Stanley Cup final a year ago, but you can do so much worse than potentially grabbing the best prospect available a year later.
Shane Wright, a forward with the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs, is the projected top prospect for the draft. Logan Cooley, projected by The Hockey News’ Ryan Kennedy to go second overall, is currently playing with the United States at the U-18 World Hockey Championship in Germany.
