Patrik Allvin is set to become Vancouver’s 12th NHL GM, leaving the Pittsburgh Penguins to take the position.
The news was first reported by TSN’s Darren Dreger and later confirmed by Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
Allvin has become the second European NHL GM behind Columbus Blue Jackets boss Jarmo Kekalainem.
Allvin started his career as a European scout with Montreal in 2002-03 before joining Pittsburgh in 2006-07. He was later promoted to the director of European scouting in 2012-13, director of amateur scouting in 2017-18 and assistant GM IN 2020-21. Allvin filled in for Jim Rutherford as interim GM last year before Ron Hextall took over.
This will be Allvin’s first official GM gig in the NHL. His experience working with Rutherford made him an easy candidate a day after the team hired Émilie Castonguay as assistant GM.
